Rekenreks

My "get ready for school" project of the week is making student class sets of Rekenreks for the primary teachers at my school.  The Rekenreks are a powerful way for kids to concretely understand numbers and place value.  Thankfully, our district is providing each teacher with one solid large version so teachers are able to model how the Rekenrek is used as a tool.  This can also be set up at a teacher led or student led center for small group instruction.  The student class sets can be placed in a bin just like the other manipulatives we use during math instruction.  I plan on researching each grade level materials list in DUVAL Math for other student set manips I can get started on.

What about the scripted lessons?

Click on this link then press the  arrow to hear about DUVAL Math Scripted Lesson
Below is information from our friends at EngageNY.
The optional curricular materials on EngageNY are designed to be adopted or adapted. Educators will find both PDF and Word versions available for their use. Some lessons provide detailed instructions or recommendations but it is important to note that the lessons are not scripts and rather they should be viewed as vignettes so that the reader can imagine how the class could look.
Lessons are adaptable and allow for teacher preference and flexibility so that what is happening in the classroom can both meet students' needs and be in service to the shifts and the standards. If you do choose to make significant changes to lessons, the Tristate/EQuIP rubric is available to help you evaluate the quality, rigor, and alignment of your adapted lessons.
Also, please note that the Math modules include a significant number of problem sets so that students have ample opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge. Educators can help students to achieve deep conceptual knowledge by asking them to complete selected problems that have been designed in a sequential, thoughtful order. It is not expected that all the problems in a problem set be administered, but rather educators can choose from the ample amount of problems provided. Educators may certainly adapt this curriculum using their own judgment regarding student needs and pace of the semester and/oryear.

DUVAL Math

Hello Math Rockstars!
I am thrilled to be a part of the charter year of implementation of  the DUVAL Math materials for the 2015-16 school year. DUVAL Math was "born" from dedicated elementary teachers, coaches, and specialists who worked countless hours to blend the awesomeness of research based EngageNY and Eureka Math materials. DUVAL Math was created to deliver the focus, coherence and rigor of the Math Florida Standards.
Check out this article from on how the materials embed read-world problems in our math lessons.
