Rekenreks

My "get ready for school" project of the week is making student class sets of Rekenreks for the primary teachers at my school.  The Rekenreks are a powerful way for kids to concretely understand numbers and place value.  Thankfully, our district is providing each teacher with one solid large version so teachers are able to model how the Rekenrek is used as a tool.  This can also be set up at a teacher led or student led center for small group instruction.  The student class sets can be placed in a bin just like the other manipulatives we use during math instruction.  I plan on researching each grade level materials list in DUVAL Math for other student set manips I can get started on.
